DESIGN TOOLS - HELP

 
Welcome to Girl Scout Design Studio Help – We are here to assist with your design questions. Designing a T-shirt is easy, once you know what to do and become familiar with the Design Tools on the site.                        

There are three easy steps for designing a t-shirt:                                                                      

1. Pick the t-size and color 
2. Upload your own graphic or use the GSDS art libraries to select a design
3. Add text to personalize t-shirt                                                                                 

Don’t forget to save your design once you are finished!

The Information that follows is organized alphabetically and will familiarize you with the tools. 

• ADD ART  This icon opens a large library of art.  There are two main categories of art, with many subcategories.

• ART & INSPIRATION  Clip Art - The artist can select a piece of art from this library and watch it appear in its own box inside the frame.  As the artist you can enlarge and reduce the size of the art, layer it by inserting the same art multiple times, create lines of the same or multiple clip art, change the location inside your frame and much, much more!

• BUY NOW    Use this button to purchase your tee shirt design right from the Design Studio. The Buy Now button will place the design in your shopping cart.

• CHANGING FONTS   You can change the fonts by selecting a new one from the library.  The new font will automatically change on your shirt after you have added it to the design. 

• DELETING DESIGNS FROM GALLERY    Users cannot delete designs from the Gallery.  If a user has a valid reason for removing a design, please contact Customer Service.

• DELETING DESIGNS FROM Tee Shirt Design Tool    Any individual graphic in your design can be deleted by selecting the art and clicking the trash can on the top right corner of the graphic. If you have multiple graphics in your design and want to delete the first one inserted, move each graphic until you can highlight the one you want.  Once selected follow the deletion process above.

• EDITING ART AND TEXT    Place your cursor in the box of art or text that you want to edit.  Once highlighted the box containing the design will open all the tools for editing size, graphic or text.

• ENLARGING ART SIZE    The corners of each piece of art in your design are marked with arrows that you can grab to enlarge the graphic to the size you prefer.  It cannot exceed the size of the frame on the T-shirt.

• FONT SIZE & SHAPE    Grabbing the corners of the text box to increase or decrease text size can alter text size.  Making text bold or italicized is easily done when the text box is active with the buttons that reside in the text tool.  If you want to arch the text above or below a design, select your text box and use the arch tool.

• GIRL SCOUT ART    Girl Scout Art includes official Girl Scouts® Mission based designs that your Troop may be participating in AND a library of fun un-official Scouting events to select from as well.

• LAYERING TEXT    Multiple lines of text can be entered on top of one anther and be assigned a specific font and color by entering text one line at a time.

• NAMING ART    When a user is ready to Save their design, the save tool opens to allow you to name your design.  In doing so, apply a name that will easily remind you of the project.  You can use up to 20 characters in the name.

• RANK A DESIGN    All registered designers on www.mygsds.com can select a design in the Gallery and rank it according to how the design inspires you.  The rankings are named according to designers in training through Design Star!  Be fair when ranking because you want others to be fair with you as well!  Rankings are an important element in contests.

• REDUCING SIZE OF ART    The art you select for your design will appear in a large size and automatically reduce itself into the design frame on the tee shirt. Note that the corners are marked with arrows that you can grab to shrink the graphic to the size you prefer.

• ROTATE ART    There is a small round arrow on the upper left corner of the box, which holds a design.  Use this to rotate your design.

• ROTATING TEXT PLACEMENT    There is a curved arrow on the top left corner of the active text box that when selected will allow you to align the text as desired.  Once satisfied with placement, release the active text box and everything will remain as you left it.

• SAVE TO GALLERY    Use this icon to save and post your design in the Gallery where it can be shared with all users and visitors to the site.  Anyone can purchase a T-shirt using your design from the Gallery.  Users can Rank a design by opening the design and selecting the description that best describes the design for you.

• SAVE AS PRIVATE    Save a design to MY STUDIO where it can be edited or stored from view until the artist is ready to publish.  You also have the option to buy directly from MY STUDIO if you'd like to keep the design private.

• SAVE TO MY STUDIO    If at any time a user does not have time to complete a design, or wishes for this design to remain private, save it as PRIVATE in MY STUDIO where it will remain until you return to work on it.

• T-SHIRT SELECTION    First objective is to select the color of T-shirt you wish to have as the base of your design.  The color selector is located at the bottom of the Design space.  Once a color is selected, the background T-shirt color will automatically change. 

• T-SHIRT SIZE     The options for size and color appear at the bottom of the design space and on the style selection page when ranking or purchasing a design in the Gallery.  In addition, a size chart is available by clicking the "i" next to the size selection.

• T-SHIRT COLOR     All colors offered by www.mygsds.com will be shown in the product section of the Design Tool and at the bottom of the Design Space.

• TEXT    This icon opens a library of fonts and a corresponding color palette.  Enter the text for your T-shirt in the box one line at a time. The text will appear on the shirt in its own text box with corners, arrows for enlarging and shrinking. Before adding a second line of text, the first text box should NOT remain highlighted.    Click out of the text box to release the frame. 

• TEXT COLOR     Once text is in your design and while the text box is active, changing text color is as easy as mousing over the color palette and evaluating color preference as the text in your design changes color.

• UPLOAD     Upload your own artwork. An artist can open the Upload module and select a file from their computer to upload into the GSDS Design Tools.   Some things to consider when uploading:
  • Make sure that the file size is at least 300 dpi to ensure the highest quality print.  The upload tool will make you aware if the resolution is not high enough to generate a quality print.  
  • Copyright or Intellectual Property Laws prevent us from uploading original art created by a third party. Basically this means art from magazines, books, electronic books and web sites cannot be incorporated into a design without express permission of the original artist.
  • Photos cannot be uploaded.
  • Language and Art – Any design using unsuitable words, graphics or descriptions in garment designs will not be produced and will be removed from the Gallery.
